INTRODUCING THE NEW W TYPE FOUNDRY WEBSITE
Although only four years have passed since the creation of W, the context in which we are inserted has evolved and changed. The number of channels, media, supports, platforms and technological devices in which content of every kind is consumed and shared grows day by day. That content involves texts, typefaces.
It has become necessary to rethink the role of type design from an aesthetic perspective –combined with images and other static and animated graphic elements- and from a social and political point of view: what was once only a means of communicating the message, is now the message itself. The relevance taken on by typography makes us more aware of our voice and of the need to share it, to think critically and to question our own role in a marketplace largely controlled by the retail sector.
This concern has brought W to a more mature stage, along with a renewed online presence, new and reimagined licenses suited to the current reality, and new channels to share all kinds of content.
New, more flexible and adaptable licenses
We adapted to a new outlook by creating a new license that combines desktop and print use, web and social media applications. The Cross Media License provides wider and more flexible use rights for various contexts combining desktop, web and social media applications. Our Custom License considers the specific typeface needs of projects with varying natures and scales, adapting to each of them individually.
Blog: ideas, interviews, news stories, analysis and more
Throughout this period, we have shared and expanded our work through workshops, talks and collaborations with designers and creative minds, some of whom have become good friends. Now, all that material, long-form conversations and much more content, will have an outlet in our new blog.
W Font Tester
One of our most exciting new features can be found in the home page of the site, incorporated into any detailed views of our catalogue: the font tester. You can test all the variants of our fonts, modify sizes and text, background and letter color, as well as display opentype options such as special characters and alternative sets.
